Yet it’s forever embedded into unconsciousness

rage that decays and becomes stale

the toxic mushrooms that grows from the mud

My artistic practice symbolizes patriarchy and anger toward female hatred. Korea still has a patriarchal system like the wall, and too many women are treated as apparently equal citizens such as indiscriminate murder, sexual violence, objection and unequal wage problems, and discrimination. To make matters worse, the disconnection with the mother who died when I was young, the time alone that I had inevitably spent, the absence of the female adult guardian caused communication disconnection with the real world. The similar incidents and unfortunate news of many women every day in the world, from adolescence to the present, have resulted in avoidance of interpersonal and lethargy. I feel like a passive prisoner myself. Past past, which ignored helplessly to be angry when I experienced a horrible reality or an unfair work, was piled up like a fossil within me.

Most of my work contains skeletons which represents condensed fear, hatred, and disgust that never have been gushed out as if they are locked up into a coffin. The skeleton is a requisite element throughout my work; my persona. Absence of physical facial expression while painting resembles the skull. The face without emotion paradoxically conceals the internal rage, loneliness and grief from the world. They seems as if it is forcefully thrown into a world without a rule or direction. An infant from a virgin Mary. Self replication. I believe that the two dimensional surface is not a simple object but a moving organism as those images reiterate the process of decomposing and recomposing.

Repeatability is also an important element. The repetition of obsessive images of prototypes leading to phobic phobia acts as a personal visual protest. Also, the vibrant colors with high contrast yet a quite showy decoration fortifies the dark side of my somber personality that separate myself from people and reality. The images are painted in high chrome creates an illusion that each and every elements in the paintings look like they are floating in the space which implicate the insecurity and a lack of stability of myself.
